Frequently Asked Questions

1. Who is authorized to use services at the VTF?
  • Our services are available to all active duty military personnel, retirees, and their family members.
2. How can I get my pet seen at the VTF?
  • We see pets by appointment only. Our ability to see privately-owned pets depends on staff availability due to our other mission requirements
→Booking: Our monthly schedule opens on the 15th of every month
→Be Prepared: Appointments are limited and fill up quickly. We strongly recommend establishing a relationship with a local, off-base veterinarian to ensure your pet always has access to care

3. What services are offered at the VTF?
  • Our services include: Wellness exams, vaccinations, parasite prevention, and health certificates for travel.
  • Limitations: We do not provide overnight hospitalization, emergent, or urgent surgery. For these needs, we will refer you to a local veterinary hospital.
4. Does the VTF offer surgical or dental procedures? YES!
  • Process Your pet must first have an examination with one of our veterinarians. They will determine if we can add your pet to our waiting list or if you need a referral to an off-base clinic.
  • Wait times: The wait list can be up to 3 months or longer due to staff training and mission schedules. We highly encourage you to have a regular off-base veterinarian for urgent needs.
  • If your pet needs a procedure done, call us and ask to determine whether we can accommodate.
5. What are the hours of operation for the VTF?
    Our clinic hours are:
  • Monday - Thursday: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
  • Friday: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Closures: We are closed on all federal and training holidays. We are also closed for inventory on the last working day of each month and may close with minimal notice for other official duties.
6. How do I fill a prescription for my pet?
Please plan ahead for all prescription refills.
  • Refills from Our Clinic: Please call us at least 48 hours in advance for any refills. Special-order medications may take longer, and we will call you when they are ready.
  • Prescriptions from other vets: To fill a prescription from an off-base vet, your pet must first be seen by one of our veterinarians for the same condition. Prescriptions from other military clinics will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
7. Do you sell prescription pet food?
  • We do not stock any prescription diets. However, our veterinarians can provide you with a written prescription that you can use to purchase the food from other suppliers.
8. What should I do in an emergency?
  • We are not equipped to handle emergency cases. If your pet has an emergency, please take them to a local, off-base emergency clinic immediately. Click here for a list of local resources.
9. What if I need to find a new home for my pet?
  • If you need to rehome your pet, both you and the new owner must complete and sign a Transfer of Ownership form. Until this form is submitted to our clinic, you remain the legal and financial owner, and the new owner will not be able to access the pet's records or be seen at our facility.
